About LaGrange

Education
Outstanding public, private and charter schools serve residents of LaGrange and Troup County. Twelve elementary, three middle and three public high schools serve the county, as well as a Fine Arts Magnet School (named top U.S. fine arts school by the Westat Foundation) and a Math, Science and Technology Magnet Elementary School. Several schools have earned state and national recognition for outstanding performance, including best high school in Georgia, which reflects the community’s commitment to excellence. Eight nonsectarian and religious private schools offer families additional options for quality education.

The community also benefits from a variety of continuing education opportunities with LaGrange College, a four-year liberal arts and sciences institution ranked by U.S. News & World Report among the South’s top 10 comprehensive colleges. West Georgia Technical College, located on an 88-acre campus just five minutes from downtown LaGrange, also offers a wide range of continuing education programs.

Recreation
Bryant Lake LaGrange is surrounded by a rich bounty of public and private golf courses, tennis and swim facilities, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and hunting resources. In addition, several remarkable destinations offer year-round recreation just minutes from Bryant Lake LaGrange.

• Callaway Gardens: World-famous garden, resort, preserve and community — 14 miles

• West Point Lake: Prized by anglers around the country, West Point Lake hosts numerous fishing tournaments, including the American Bass Anglers American Fishing Tour, the annual Georgia State Bass Championship and the WPL Winter Extreme Bass Tournament. The lake features 520 miles of shoreline with 26,000 acres of water and 30,000 acres of public land. Numerous parks, most with picnic shelters, boat ramps and courtesy docks, nature trails and excellent fishing access, are located around the lake. Beach areas, campgrounds, public hunting areas, firing range, two commercial marinas, beach areas and fishing piers — 11 miles

• Little White House & FDR State Park: Georgia’s largest state park, boat rental, horseback riding, camping and picnicking, near FDR’s Little White House — 18 miles
• Wild Animal Safari: 500-acre preserve gives visitors a remarkable, close-up experience with hundreds of animals from around the world — 18 miles

Cultural life
Home to the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, the LaFayette Society for the Performing Arts and other organizations, LaGrange delights residents with an active cultural life that rivals much larger cities. The LaGrange Art Museum and the Lamar Dodd Art Center provide a variety of permanent and traveling exhibitions that enchant and educate patrons of all interests throughout the year. Downtown, LaGrange is flourishing with excellent restaurants, fashionable shops and an active nightlife energized by a lively mix of historic charm and vibrant entertainment.
