A week ago we had snow on the ground. Yesterday, the high was a pleasant 75 degrees F. But the LaGrange Fire Department was turning up the heat with a controlled burning of some old houses during a training exercise.
It’s pretty amazing to see the expertise and courage of these firefighters as they practice how to handle the destructive power and danger of structure fires. Thank you for what you do, LFD.

LaGrange Fire Dept. prepares to train in soon-to-burn structure.
P.S. Btw, normal high temp for this time of year at Bryant Lake is 68 degrees F. Not too hot, not too cool. Just right.

March 1 brought a rare blanket of snow to Bryant Lake. Now I like a winter wonderland as much as the next person, but I gotta tell you after one quick look I swam to the depths of Bryant Lake to avoid the wintry mix and cold temps.
The old saying is that “If March comes in like a lion, it will go out like a lamb.” At this rate, we should be able to count on sunny days and picnics beside the lake by the first of April. That’s not so baaaaa-a-a-a-d, is it?

The economic stimulus package that the President signed on February 17 will provide a tax credit of up to $8,000 for first-time home buyers. There are several important things to know so that you can receive the full advantage of this opportunity.
- Only homes purchased between January 1 and December 1, 2009 are eligible.
- The tax credit does not have to be repaid.
- Is fully refundable.
- Permits state housing finance agencies to help buyers at closing by advancing the credit amount as a loan using tax-exempt bond proceeds.
- Increases the FHA, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac loan limits to 2008 levels.
Contact Charmaine at the Bryant Lake LaGrange Sales Center for more information: toll-free 877-384-LAKE.
You can also read a clearly written summary from the National Association of Home Builders.

Jon lands a big bass at Bryant Lake - but it
This week Bryant Lake yielded a hefty large-mouth bass. (Look at the belly on that fish!) For the record, no, this is not a photo of Doozy. This is one of Doozy’s little brothers caught by our intrepid angler, who released the big fellow back into the lake.
You can rest assured that the 25 acres of pure Bryant Lake waters are home to quite a few of these lunkers. And by springtime they’re going to be bigger, stronger and hungrier than ever. Come see the year-round, natural beauty of lake living in your new hometown - Bryant Lake LaGrange.

Hit the spot that hits the spot
The. Perfect. Lunch. Have you visited downtown LaGrange? It’s what, 2 miles from Bryant Lake. I just had two hotdogs, chips and a Coke at my favorite lunch spot. Mmm, pickles. Green things rock!
If you relish the perfect hotdog, hamburger, chicken salad or grilled cheese sandwich, you must have lunch at Charlie Joseph’s. It’s an old school, family-run lunch counter with stools that spin, cool stuff on the walls and friendly people. (And no fish sandwiches on the menu, thankyouverymuch.)
So, here’s the secret recipe…for the perfect afternoon:
- Pop into the Bryant Lake Downtown Sales Center (You can get a flyer with the easy-as-pie directions to Bryant Lake.)
- Walk across the Square (Hello, Mr. Lafayette Statue.) to Charlie Joseph’s diner.
- Enjoy The. Perfect. Lunch. (Speaking of pie – have some!)
- Drive over to Bryant Lake and tour the decorated model homes.
Tasty. Fun. Beautiful. Look for me at the lake. If you don’t see me right away, it just means I’m sleeping off a big lunch!

You guys know me – I’m all about nature, outdoor living, preserving the environment. I’m not just “green,” I literally am green.
So please hear me right when I say I think there is something a little strange about squirrels. What’s up with the digging, all the time digging? Not a problem for me, but it just seems a little, I don’t know, manic or something. But that’s cool. Acorn Park at Bryant Lake definitely has the beautiful oak trees and nuts that squirrels like.
What IS a problem for me is the darting around LIKE A HUNTED FISH THANK YOU VERY MUCH. When I see a squirrel go from 0 to 60 in, oh, ONE NANOSECOND, I automatically dart around like there’s an enormous pike fish about to eat me. Scares me nearly to death. Can the squirrels stop with the dashing around like their tails are on fire? Please! And I mean no offense. Believe me, some of my best friends are squirrels. I’m just sayin’.

My favorite all-time show, fins down. I wish I could meet SpongeBob and the whole crew. What do you think a Krabby Patty from the Krusty Krab tastes like? I LOVE seafood (though I must say it creeps me out a little when I watch other people eat it). We don’t have starfish like Patrick, but there IS something that kinda looks like Squidward hanging from a tree stump in Bryant Lake. Once, I met a snail in Bryant Lake, but it didn’t meow like Gary does. Ooooh, who lives in a pineapple under the sea?

I eat worms like there’s no tomorrow. Red, pink, green, yellow, orange, purple. I’m flat out hooked on ‘em. Mmm…juicy goodness. What, you’re telling me you don’t love gummy worms? Dee-lish. Hope I get tons on Halloween. This year I’m going trick-or-treatin’ as a cowboy. Having trouble with the whole boots thing but I’m already rockin’ the cowboy hat, hooyah.
